My Life On The Beach: Marissa Hermer
Marissa Hermer is the co-founder of Top Dog, London’s first U.S style hot dog joint, serving custom built naturally good dogs, fries, and shakes. When she’s not opening trendy Soho eateries, Marissa can be found staring in Bravo’s ‘Ladies of London’ - following the day-to-day lives of six successful Londoners. We caught up with Marissa to get her scoop on blissful beaches and holiday style.
First up, what’s your favourite beach?
Laguna Beach in California (where I grew up) - so many childhood memories of building sandcastles at sunset.
What makes the perfect getaway for the whole family?
Surf and Sand - with a bucket and spade and some waves for diving under, the family is entertained for weeks on end!
Where is the most kid-friendly destination you’ve visited?
We love the Prince Maurice in Mauritius - white sand beaches, calm water, and a great kids club (essential!)
Which 3 words best describe your holiday style?
Easy, comfortable, and relaxed. I try to pack as little as possible (as for some reason the kids take up so many suitcases! - so a few bikinis and sarongs and I’m done!
Any tips for keeping kids happy on the plane?
I always download a few new movies before a long flight - and also find the accompanying little figurines for the film - so the boys can play with their new toys while they watch the movie… it makes it all come to life.
What small things would you be lost without on holiday?
Do you read while you’re away and if so, what’s on your reading list?
I love to read while on holiday - I enjoy escaping into a good crime novel but also I admit that I do read a lot of parenting books, I find them fascinating especially when I learn tips that I can incorporate into my own life - I’ve just downloaded Noel Janis-Norton’s Calmer, Easier Happier Boys: The Revolutionary Programme that Transforms Family Life
What holiday sticks in your mind as truly special?
We’ve spent the last few summers in Italy - there is nothing better than shopping in the local markets, playing in the pool all day, and cooking as a family in the kitchen - I love plunking down for a couple weeks and not moving!
Finally, when you get home, what are the signs that you’ve been on a successful trip?
Whenever we return from a trip, we always feel more reconnected as a family and also refreshed to get back to ‘real life’ - we’ve had the recharge that we needed!
