TOP BEACH DESTINATIONS: Maldives
Our star travel advisor Beth Cooper, founder of luxury travel PR company, Beth Cooper PR, shares with us her favourite beach destinations and her top insider tips for the best places to stay, eat and visit!
Where to stay in March: The Maldives
Where to stay: The Anantara Dhigu Resort & Spa which is situated on the South Male Atoll is a fabulous, family friendly hotel. The huge, luxurious villas offer great flexibility. A recent addition of some family suites are excellent and offer brilliant value for money. The hotel is only 35 minutes from the airport by speed boat, easing travel transfer headaches! Our children loved this place for the freedom it offered. Wide sandy paths between hotel, villas, pools and beach meant they could run bare foot every day without any need for to much parental involvement!
Where to eat: The island offers 9 restaurants which is really unusual for this type of location. We loved the options and choice enabled by the close proximity to two sister properties which you can get to via water taxi. It meant that most nights there was somewhere new to try!
What to do or see: The kids loved snorkelling on baby reefs very close to the shore, seeing baby sharks and masses of other sea life right from the beach. They also learnt about coral and went deep sea fishing.
Don’t' forget to pack: A medical kit for ease, as although the mainland is close you are still on an island and it is good to have the basics. Also lots of beachwear from Sunuva as island living is the thing here! Beautiful sarongs and swimsuits are the only requirement.
Parents will love: A romantic meal on the beach at neighbouring Naladhu and the fabulous spa.
Kids will love: The freedom, cooking the fish after catching it… AND no shoes for the entire trip!
